Body in motion:

  • A body is said to be in motion only when it's instàntaneous position changes with respect to time as per a specific reference frame.

  • Yes, it is a common property of an object.

So, a body can be at rest as well as in motion depending on the reference frame.

For example :

  • A train pàssing a platform will be in motion with respect to the passengers standing on the platform.

  • But it will be in rest with respect to the pàssengers travelling in the train.

Now, for position to change w.r.t time, the body must have a velocity as follows:

 v =  \dfrac{\Delta x}{\Delta t}  =  \dfrac{x2 - x1}{t2 - t1}
