Plains of northern India are flat and enormous. It is  extended in the east west direction between the Himalayas in the north and Peninsular Plateau in the south.
These plains form an unbroken belt of alluvium varying in thickness from east Bihar Plain to Punjab and northern Rajasthan.
Sutlej Plain in the west, the Ganga Plain in the middle, the Ganga Delta and the Brahmaputra Valley in the east constitute the northern plains.
The Northern Plains, also known as the Gangetic Plains. The Northern Plains spreading from Assam  to Punjab, has a length of around 2400 km and the width ranges between 150 km to 300 km, varying in different regions.
It can be found in Bihar, Punjab, Assam , West Bengal , Uttar Pradesh , parts of Delhi and Haryana .

• The northern plains of India are called the Indo -Gangetic plains, hence the sill cover is rich and fertile and water is available throughout the year. Also, plains are the most intensively farmed areas and hence densely populated.

• These plains are home to millions and spread from the upper areas of Punjab to the middle areas of Uttar Pradesh belt towards the lower areas of West Bengal and all fall on the same tract of the Ganges river system.

• Which has created many beautiful gorges, canyons and river meanders on the surface making it a biodiverse region.
