If you find dead toads and the heads have a 'caved in' or 'melted' look thentoad fly is the most likely explanation. Amphibians that die in ponds/water tend to swell up after death, which is unrelated. Occasionally frogs, toads or newts are found with an inflated appearance.______

The dying and dead frogs may or may not have obvious external symptoms (e.g. discoloured skin, ulcers, bleeding) but may appear lethargic and disorientated, particularly in and aroundthe edges of ponds.
