With the help of a blue litmus paper or a pH paper, the substance can be testdd whether it is an acid or a base. If its an acid then it turns blue litmus paper to red in colour and vice versa for a base. In a pH paper colour for acids is red to yellow and color of bases is blue to purple.

we can test the presence of acid by adding water to it not by adding water into acid.
when water to acid then more molecule of acid are attracted towards water molecule ata a time and is vigourous and exothermic and hence the acid is splashed out and with the water vapour and cause burn to our skin or face
