Millions of years ago Earth was filled with vegetation. When this vegetation died it was buried under the soil due to natural disasters such as rain, flood , etc. With time they got more and more pushed deep down. As they sank deeper and deeper so did temperature and pressure rise. Overtime it changed them to coal.

Coal is found only at a few places on Earth for example Ruhr Germany. It is extracted using special machines after which it is purified and used.
