Cocoons are made by caterpillars .Cocoons are constructed from silk. The silk comes from the glands near the mouth of the caterpillar .They use their mouth to weave the silk, which is sticky at first and slowly turn it into a cocoon. Some caterpillars make very loose cocoons, while others build very strong cocoons. Most build a cocoon that is just big enough to encase the body while they are attached to a branch or underside of a leaf.
