How deforestation is directly related to soil erosion

It is not directly related at all, unless the deforestation was caused by flooding. Deforestation allows erosion to washy away top soil and essential nutrients that were previously held in place by the forest.
Due to this the soil becomes less fertile - is poorer after erosion...
