1. He failed terribly in business in the year 1833.
2. His only girlfriend, with whom he was supposed to marry, died in the year 1835.
3. Due to this he suffered from nervous breakdown in the year 1836 and lost his post-office job.
4. He was badly defeated in his 1st election for the post of speaker in 1838.
5. He lost the nomination to US senate and also for the post of Vice President. He lost another election in 1858.
6. In the year 1860, he finally achieved success and became the president of USA. This shows that he was persistent throughout his political career and never quit from any challenge.
