It provided for quicker transport of manufactured goods, which strengthened trade.
The fact the Britain is an island country, helped it a lot, because it had an open way for export and import on its territory and it was also able to be done relatively quickly. Since it had a way of quickly import raw materials, and export manufactured goods, Britain was able to develop its industries very quickly, and they were growing more, to a point were they became the dominant players on the world market.
