The mamluk dynasty (Slave dynasty) was succeeded by the khilji dynasty.

• In 1290 CE, a noble named Jalaluddin Khalji overcame the external set of Mongols overthrew the incompetent successors of Balban and established the Khalji dynasty.

• The Khaljis were of a mixed Turkish Afghan origin and rise of the Khaljis ended the Turkish hegemony of controlling the high offices.

Alauddin Khalji treacherously murdered his uncle and father in law is Jalaluddin Khalji in 1296 CE and succeeded him.

• Under Alauddin's reign the Delhi Sultanate became an imperial power.
