how did archeologist reconstruct the past

Actually archaeology really can't be used to reconstruct the past only our interpretation of the past based on the evidence left behind.
Some archaeology believe in using anthropological studies of similar cultures in order to theorize what past cultures might have been like and for those who deal with history in oppose to prehistory i suppose that archaeological find would  be used in conjunction with historical records .That does not however mean that archaeological conclusion should be taken as gospel or accurate  reconstructions of any thing rather than the material culture of other society.
