Explanation:

Barrackpore was the initial point for the Revolt of 1857 or Sepoy Mutiny as called by the British Historians.

When East India Company came up with the new Enfield rifle, the Indian soldiers were angry with the Company as they had to bite of the paper before loading and firing the gun. The paper was said to be greased with cow and pig fat. When opposed to the Company took it back but till then the damage has been done.

Mangal Pandey became the leader of the Barrackpore sepoy mutiny and in the fit of anger he killed a british official after which he was hanged to death.

The events that happened in Barrackpore ranging from introducing ne Enfield rifle to hanging Mangal Pandey had encouraged the fire of freedom that was within the hearts of millions of Indians.

Thus it is said that Barrackpore became the place for outbreak of Revolt of 1857.
