Bengal became a regional power when it broke away from Mughal control under Murshid Quli Khan who was appointed as the naib, deputy to the governor of the province, seized the opportunity to take hold of all the powers that came with the appointmentMurshid Quli Khan commanded the revenue administration of the state.He brought about a major reassessment of the revenues of Bengal, after transferring all Mughal jagirdars out of BengalBanker like those of the house of Jagat Seth became a prominent force in the state, and the chiefs lenders and collection agents for taxes.
