The birds were flying over her dead body as if they were trying to know what was happening. They followed her corpse being taken out of the house and didnt chirp like they used to do when the grandmother was alive. When the writer's mother tried to feed them, they didnt care to eat it. They may have done this to pay the grandmother homage. Even they were aware of her death and were sad about it
