In 1931,Bohr proposed his quantized shell model of the atom to explain how electrons can have stable orbits around the nucleus. The energy of an electron depends on the size of the orbit and is lower for smaller orbits. Radiation can occur only when the electron jumps from one orbit to another.
Some important points:
1) This model was based on quantum theory of radiation and classical laws of physics.
2) Bohr model is applicable only for single electron species like H,He+,Li2+etc.
3) Bohr model is based on particle nature of electron.
