Rowlatt Act was popularly knowm as The Black Act which was passed in the year 1919. this act was passed under the chairmanship of Sir Sidney Rowlatt, thus named after him.

This Act authorised the British East India Company to imorison any person suspected of terrorism living in British India fir upto two years without a trial, and gave the imperial authorities power to deal with all revolutionary activities.

In protest against this Act Non-Cooperation movement was started.

On 13 April, People gathered in the Jallianwala Bagh to celebrate Baisakhi and to protest against the Rowlatt act. That day turned into the Black Day due to the Massacre.

The Government of India repealed the Rowlatt Act in march 1922 by accepting the report of Repressive Laws Committee.
