After ddefeating Seleucus, Alexander's general,who was compelled to give eastern Afghanistan, Baluchistan, and areas west of Indus to Chandragupta.
Thus Chandragupta Maurya's empire stretched from Hindu Kush in the northwest to Bengal in the east, from Himalayas in the north to Narmada in the south.
As the northern states were mostly at war with one another so Chandragupta easily took advantage of it.Thus successful in building the first great empire
