How did cold war produce arms race as well as arms control?

arms race because it was that time when the whole world were buying piles and piles of arms and ammunitions.
they just bought it for protection.
they wanted to be equipped so that no one can attack them.
and arms control because they bought arms because they wanted to show they were strong.
they had to control the use and not start a hot war. they limited the manufacture of arms.
when cold war led to arms race, there were groups of countries for whom some kinds of arms needed to be limited.
then they had to control on the number of the arms to be sent out of the country.
countries with no internal peace should not be allowed to buy arms. (eg terrorist countries)
so treaty's were made to control and limit these.

Cold war is between the two power blocks namely USSR and USA.They want to become an emerging and the most powerful country in the world.They also started a friendly relationship with other countries.USSR started to be friendly with the most asian countries and USA with the african countries.To protect themselves and their allies,USSR and USA started to manufacture the nuclear weapons,which can easily destroy the earth for main times.In these way arms races produced and to avoid the civil wars between countries mainly alliances and arms control were started.
