The British Govt suppressed the Civil disobedience movement started by mahatma Gandhi with brutality and force. All the leaders including Gandhiji had been arrested. Repressive laws were passed to curtail civil liberties of the people. More than 60000 persons were arrested. The satyagrahis were beaten mercilessly and the wounded people were thrown into the salt water.
