Perestroika and Glasnost were the two main factors that led to the collapse of Russia. Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, came to chair in 1985 with a vision of total reform and he introduced these two policies.

Gorbachev's glasnost plan provided the Soviet people a voice they were free to prompt. Gorbachev's improvements did more to rush the fall of the Soviet Union than they fixed to save it.
