Convict became a bad man because, in prison he was beaten mercilessly. He was chained up like a wild animal and beaten like a hound. He was fed on filth. His body was covered with vermin. He slept on boats and complained but he was beaten more . One day they forgot to chain him up and he escaped. They took away his name and give him only a number 15729.
He, then, changed because of bishops large heartedness and kindness. The bishop reformed the Convict with human values like Mercy, love, sympathy and help. The Convict behaved like a criminal but the bishop treated him with love and sympathy at his home. He had stolen silver candlesticks but was arrested. The bishop saved him by telling a lie that the Convict was his friend. He himself had given him those candlesticks as a gift. This changes the convict's heart and he became a new man.
