demeter's daughter persephone got kidnapped by hades. she had gone with her naiad friends in the meadow, but hades kidnapped her and took her to the underworld. demeter was worried, but the titan hecate had heard the screams of persephone. so hecate told demeter about it. hence she could find her daughter.

i am not too sure about this, but hope it helps. i read this in a greek mythology book.
