HCF means highest common factor of given numbers. it cannot be greater than any given no. For ex: find hcf of 4 & 6 , we find all common factor of 4 & 6 i.e. 1 & 2. Now highest common factor is 2 .so hcf of 4 & 6 is 2

LCM means lowest common muliple which cannot be smaller than any given no. ex: lcm of 4 & 6 is 12
