Answers
Dr. Edward Everett Hale was a great writer, teacher and the Unitarian Minister. He was one of the oldest friends of Helen Keller. What he did for them, he had done for thousands of those who had difficult tasks to accomplish. Helen says that she has known him since she was eight and her love for him had increased over the years. His wise and tender sympathy had been the support of Helen and Miss Sullivan in times of trial and sorrow. His strong hand had helped them over many rough places. Helen says that he had filled the old skins of dogma with the new wine of love, and shown men what it is to believe, live and be free. What he had taught was beautifully expressed in his own life love for country, kindness to the least of his bretheren. He paved the way for a sincere desire to live upward and onward. In this way, Dr. Hale had a very significant role in Helen Keller’s life. Also, he has been a prophet and an inspirer of men, and a mighty doer of the word and the friend of all his race.
