Junior Willard referred by the catalogue man
- This is a piece from the story The MCC by R.K.Narayan
- Junior Willard was the name of the cricket bat.
- It was made of finest of seasoned wood.
- The catalogue of Messrs Binns featured the above bats which were used by the Cambridge Junior Boys Eleven.
- The catalogue man referred these bats as Rolls Royce, which was one of the expensive cars of those times and also a trouble free one.
Rajam reason of having three bats
- Rajam is one the character of the story The MCC by R.K.Narayan
- He wanted to have three bats in case one of them breaks during the match.
- His idea of having three bats was however not approved by Mani who thought it to be a sheer waste of money.
- Mani was in no mood to oblige the opponent with their bats and wanted to make it clear to their opponents before the match.
- So he wanted to go with the idea of having only two bats instead of three.
The most difficult part of the affair
- After Rajam, Mani and Swami decided to order for the bats came the most difficult part that was writing a letter to Messrs Binns and ordering them.
- After Mani refused to write one the responsibility was given to Swami who reluctantly accepted it.
- He spent hours to find appropriate words and their correct spellings.
- He eventually failed to come up with anything which forced Rajam to take things in his hands.
