Explanation:

Gandhi was one of the most prominent characters in India when Britishers were ruling over the entire Sub-continent.

Gandhi was a lawyer turned politician who used novel tactics to drive away the British.

According to his tactics, he encouraged people with a motto of fighting for truth and equality. He himself, fought, but his technique was to avoid bloodshed and violence. He would choose doing a hunger strike rather than using weapons to make a point.

What helped him to unite the people, was his technique of talking to people as if he was in their shoes. He would use the technique of, "i know how you feel", and "we are on the same page", to unify the people.

For instance there were times when villages were all isolated by river water and the jungles were infested with ferocious animals and the only way to enter the village was through the use of wooden poles. Thus, Gandhi learned to balance himself in the poles dug in Ganges to walk the river so that he could reason with angry villagers.

He would live with such people, reason with them and pray with them. Village by village, he calmed the religious riot. This is how he tried to gather the people as one. By targeting the grassroots.

His technique was of keeping patience to do the right thing. While most revolutionaries were willing to bend the law, his belief and strategy was straight forward. Also, he used the patience present in him, to motivate others into using the same level of patience.

He told people to create salt in the coastal areas( over which teh British held a monopoly).

He made people create their own clothes.

He made people do very simple things as mark of protest.

Other leaders talked, sermon-ed or threw stones but Gandhi did something different.

This is why people united in is ideology, which was different.
