How did Gulliver's tell to the Lilliputian that he was hungry

He noted that he needed to eat, and they tried to feed him from their stores.  Basically in one meal he ate more than would feed hundreds of Lilliputians because their food was so small compared to his monstrous size.  He also drank as much wine as they could bring him and drained their cellars.
