Helen was the first child in her family, this meant that giving her a name was a very important task that was not taken lightly by the family. Her father therefore wanted to name her after an admired ancestor by the name Mildred Campbell. However, her mother was of a different opinion and wanted to name her after her grandmother's maiden name which was Helen Everett. This was Helen's initial name but it all change when her father was taking her to church. Her father forgot her name because he refused to participate in the naming process afterwards; the name that came up was Helen Keller. That is how her name Helen Keller came to be.
