How did helen lost her faculities of seeing and hearing?

When Helen was 19 months old, she was struck with a strange fever (They called the illness acute congestion of brain and stomach). When the fever left she had gone blind and deaf. It was very agonising to her ar she had found everything going blurred suddenly. Gradually she got used to her silence and darkness. But the glimpses of broad green fields, sky, trees and flowers that she had seen earlier remained etched in her mind.
