how did Helen turn into an isolated and tormented child?

When Helen was 19 months old she suffered from a disease to which doctors were also not knowing, & they called it acute conduction of stomach and brain. doctor thought that she will not leave but in early morning the fever left. After sometime they realised that the child has lost the ability to see and hear. when she started growing up she she was not able to express her feelings. And all these things turn her into an isolated and torment child.
