A large volumed book covered with black leather named 'Secrets of the Darkest Art' was present in the Hogwart library's restricted area. It contained all the information about the Horcruxes. Headmaster Albus D. removed it from there as Tom Riddle started questioning his teachers about the Horcruxes, and kept it in his Office in 1950s. It was assumed that Tom Riddle had already it.
After the death of Prof. Albus D. in 1997, Harry told Ron and Hermione about the Horcruxes. The trio made it to them to continue the Horcrux Hunt. Just before leaving Hogwarts at the end of the 6th year, Hermione tried her luck by an attempt to summon any Horcrux book, by shouting 'Accio Horcrux Books' . As a result, the book flew to her and was in her possession in their quest to destroy the Horcruxes. This lead to Hermione know about the Horcrux.
