Iltutmish is considered as founder of Delhi Sultanate as he consolidated and expanded it's position in India ,although Qutub al Din Aibak established Mamluk(slave) dynasty in Delhi.

Following are his decisions which led to the consolidation:-

He captured Multan,Bengal,Bhilsa, Gwalior,Jalore, Ranthambore and some other kingdoms

He reorganised the monetary system and introduced iqtadari system

He organised the nobility called turkan-i-chahlgani (group of 40 Amirs)

His most decisive decision was not to grant asylum to Jalaluddin Mankarbarni who was chased by Genghis Khan. This saved India from a possible Mongol invasion.

His favourite son Nasir died and he didn't find his remaining sons to be worthy enough,so he declared Raziya, his daughter as his successor
