The war of Kalinga fought in 262 BC in the 7th year after he became the king. Kalinga war causes a great harm to lives and other thing.

From all this the King Ashoka got hurts a lot. His second wife Karuwaki the princess of kalinga also take him towards the Buddhism. So after the Kalinga war he started following Buddha's teaching. He is also the first king who opened the hospitals for animals. He also accepted a policy of "No war". Kalinga war was his last war and he didn't fought any after that till his death in 232 BC.
