After his accession to the throne Ashoka fought one major war that was Kalinga war. On conquering Kalinga Ashoka's army killed lakhs of people and thousands of people deported. This massacre changed the heart of Ashoka. Ashoka ideologically appealed the tribal and frontier people to follow the principal of Dhamma.
