Louis Pasteur proved that pure air is different from stale air by filling some bottles with soup. He took some into a hotel bedroom where the air was hardly changed, broke their necks so that air could enter and then resealed them. He then took some bottles to a field nearby and repeated the procedure. He finally went to the top of a mountain and did the same. When the bottles were examined later on, it was found that soup in the bottles kept in the hotel bedroom had gone completely mouldy, the bottles kept in the field were mouldy but not quite so bad, but those kept on the mountain had no germs in them at all. This proved that pure air is different from stale air.
