hello

I would correct your question to “how did Monsieur Hamel PRAISE the French Language in “The Last Lesson” by Daudet?” I have not read this story but in five minutes I found the answer on several “cheat sheet” sites on the web. Feeling devastated that the Germans were marching into Alsace to occupy it, and that they were going to force everyone to speak German, he said that French was the most beautiful language in the world, and that it was the clearest and the most logical of all languages. Being a linguist, I do not believe that any language is inherently beautiful or ugly. But this is important in current events because France just defeated a political candidate (Marine LePen) who would have some sympathy with the Nazis who occupied a large area of France (not just Alsace) and instituted the Vichy government under a respected General during World War II. For some it is France’s greatest shame.

i hope you understand
