how did max try to get the report from Ausable ?What happened to m at end and how ?

Max entered his home to collect the report .When Ausable entered Max was inside the house .And Ausable makes him believe that their was a balcony outside the window .When suddenly someone knocks the Ausable says to Max to hide in balcony but their was no balcony he jumped and he died
