the paid companion of Mrs Packletide was a very shrewd and crafty lady whose
actions were chiefly governed by mercenary motives. She had protective elderly-sister
attitude towards money. She was quite unethical professionally as she did not
hesitate blackmailing her own client. She converted the tiger killing into her
own favour. She knew Mrs. Packletide's weaknesses. She knew where to hit. She
threatened Mrs Packletide of revealing the truth about the tiger hunt to Loona
Bimberton, which would bring shame and embarrassment to her. So she succeeded
in extorting 680 pounds out of Mrs Packletide and bought a cherished weekend-
cottage near Darking.
