Mother Teresa picked up a woman from the street who was half-eaten by the ants and the rats. She hurriedly took the woman to the nearby hospital for treatment. They at first showed their helplessness in admitting the injured woman but soon took her after Mother Teresa refused to move from the hospital till the injured woman was given attended.

After that Mother Teresa  visited the municipality and requested them to provide place for such patients in future. The officer in charge of the health department took her to the dharamshala at the Kali Temple.

Mother Teresa was very delighted to find a place for such victims and within a day there were many patients who were brought there. In this way she initiated the work for home for the sick and the  dying.
