Explanation:
Mother Teresa set up the first home for the sick and the dying in Kalighat,Kolkata, India under the name Nirmal Hriday (The Home of the Pure Heart). It was founded on her 42nd birthday, 22 August 1952. It was formed after two years of the existence of the Missionaries of Charity.
The building was previously used as an abandoned temple of the Hindu goddess Kali. She later on with the support of Indian officials converted the building into the "Kalighat home for the dying", It was a home which provided care for the sick, destitute and poor people.
During the course of time she changed the name to "Kalighat the Home of the Pure Heart (Nirmal Hriday)". The Missionaries of Charity would carry out proper medical treatment to all those who were admitted in this home and was given a chance to die in a dignified manner as per their rituals be it a Muslim,Hindu or Catholic.
Hope this helps.
