Since Mrs Fitzgerald was aggressive and assertive, she is of the firm view that husbands, sons and daughters should their wives and mothers properly.
As Mrs. Pearson, she refuses take orders from mr. pearson and his children. She snubs doris and rebukes cyril, spoilt children of mrs. pearson, makes fun of mr. pearson tells him that he's a standing joke for the other members of his club. She shouts back at mr. pearson when he fails to control himself and shouts at her.
Actually, her rude behaviour has desired the effect.
The whole family(mr. pearson, doris, and cyril), at last ready to submit to the mother's will.
Though, she sounds overtly aggressive at times, she played her role well.

By this, she helps her in getting respect from them.

I hops this helped you.
