Question :

How did Muhammad bin Tughlaq deal with the Mongol attack?

Answer :

Mongol attacks on the Delhi Sultanate increased during the reign of Alauddin Khaiji and in the early years of Muhammad Tughluq's rule. Hence, a vast standing army was established under these two rulers to confront Mongol invasions. Alauddin constructed a new garrison town named Siri for his soldiers.

He successfully withstood the threat of Mongol invasions. His administrative measures like shifting of capital; plans to invade Transoxiana and disbanded his large army; raising of taxes and famine in the Ganga-Yamuna belt led to widespread rebellion; and token system were failure measures.

The way Muhammad bin Tughlaq dealt with the Mongol attack:

1) During the reign of Alauddin Khaiji and the early years of Muhammad Tughluq's tenure, Mongol raids on the Delhi Sultanate escalated. As a result, these two monarchs formed a massive standing army to counter Mongol incursions.

2) For his men, Alauddin built a new garrison town called Siri. The prospect of Mongol invasions was effectively repelled by him.

3) His administrative efforts, including the relocation of the capital; intentions to attack Transoxiana, which resulted in the disbandment of his large army; tax increases and starvation in the Ganga-Yamuna belt, which led to widespread rebellion; and the token system, were all failures measures.

4) Alauddin's administrative structure was likewise quite efficient. As a result, he successfully resisted Mongol invasions.

5) Muhammad's administrative initiatives, on the other hand, were ineffective. He intended to attack Transoxiana, the Mongol capital.

6) But he quickly quit. His administrative measures caused a slew of issues. The relocation of inhabitants to Dautabad was a source of resentment.
