The narrator explained that their tribe was poor by mentioning that their tribe was famous and known for their honesty. Although they were poor, they held themselves upright in the filed of being honest and trustworthy. Also, it has been mentioned in the story that people of their tribe were unable to have any horse. Owning a horse was even not possible for the people which symbolizes that they were very poor.
