How did poet come to know about the broken statue of Ozymandias

The poet was travelling in the sands. Later he saw trunkless legs standing erect on the pedestal. The tour guide informed him that this had been the statue of a king named 'Ozymandias'.....He also saw that his visage was lying sunken in the sand.

when the poet was travelling in the sands he saw a trunkless statue where his head was lying uncared..he then thought that this man's statue would be powerful for then only when he was alive....when he died he lost his virtue and everything else..
