here is ur answer...

the revolt of 1857 popularly reffered to as the 'sepoy revolt' was started by the soldiers. there were primary two reasons for the casue if this revolt. Sepoys were jailed , the indian sepoys, were jailed for no proper reason. These sepoys were recruited by the britishers to expand their army and the sepoys were asked to travel overseas to fight for the britishers. But the indian sepoys were against this, as they believed that travelling overseas would destroy their religion and they would become people of no religion. Basically, the religion of theirs is against them travelling overseas. This sepoys revolt started as the people who are going against the britishers for travelli g overseas were jailed and were treated very harshly. The sepoys revolt started in 1857, the remaining sepoys went over to the jails and made the other soldiers free. Like this , alot of soldiers joined this revolt against the britishers. doctrine of lapse was initiated on Punjab and the nawab was deposed by the britishers , but instead of doing this calmly , they added an argument that the Punjab bawab was deposed for his misgovernence too. And the people of Punjab were furious on the way the nawab was deposed and hence the soldiers and the common people Punjab joined the sepoys revolt making the strength of this revolt 3 times the normal.

hope this helps you!
