Explanation:

Marathas had a strong hold over the nearby territories of mumbai which was the main centre of British in west India. British were trying to acquire these territories. After death of Peshwa Madhavrao, his uncle Raghunathrao was in greed for the seat of peshwa who asked the British for help in it.In Such way, The british enter into the maratha politics.
