The Revolt or uprising of 1857 was a valiant effort by disgruntled Indian sepoys to overthrow the colonial power from Indian shores, however, it ended in failure. The reasons for the failure of the 1857 Revolt are many and can be grouped into Administrative, Military and Political causes.

The following were the main reasons as to why the British succeed:-


Lack of support from educated indians.

Superior quality of arms and ammunition of Brits.

Lack of unity among as you can see a ✋ ful of kings like nana saheb and Rani Lakshmi Bai and Zafar went on to fight the Brits but on the other hand schindias, Nizam, Rajputana, woodiyar dynasty helped the Brits to suppress the great mutiny.
