Answer:

Its name is derived from Amrit Sarovar which was built by Guru Ramdas in the Tung village. This village was historically called Ramdaspur. Gradually it acquired the present name of Amritsar which literally means "a pool of nectar".

The first Harmandir sahib, in the city of Amritsar, Punjab was built in 1604 by Arjan, the fifth Sikh guru.
