The Name of Mughal ruler was removed from the coins minted by the Company. In 1849, Lord Dalhousie announced that after the death of Bahadur Shah Zafar, his family would be shifted out of Red Fort and be given another place in Delhi to reside in. Also in 1856, Lord Canning decided that Bahadur Shah Zafar would be the last Mughal emperor and his descendants would not be recognized as king but just as the princes. By all these means, the Company tried their best to abolish the power of Mughal dynasty.
