• When the elder brother failed for the first time, he stopped calling the narrator worthless and began preaching to him not to be proud of his accomplishments.
• The narrator made a schedule for himself so that he could study and play. However, he was unable to adhere to the timetable because the playground was more appealing than sitting and studying.  The big brother softened a little when he discovered he was only a grade ahead of him.
